HistoryIn 1996 a reporter for a major news outlet for New York and his crew were shipped off to Afghanistan to cover the Afghan Civil War. The reporter, Daniel Jensen was part Arabic and spoke the language quiet fluently, but he was not Muslim. Mirah Qadir, was an unmarried, young woman tending to her father's house. One day she was in the market when a fight broke out. Daniel saved her and was hurt in the process.
Mirah returned to her home with the wounded man and told her father of his bravery. He was highly welcomed into the household. The family was surprised he spoke Arabic and that he was half himself. Her father seemed a bit disappointed he was not Muslim, but still the wheels had been turning in his mind.
Her father had never been one to practice Islamic laws to the letter. His wife had been one of the more free women and he was faithful only to her. He saw how his only child and Daniel interacted and approached Daniel about the prospect of marriage. Even though Mirah would have no say, she didn't hesitate to sign the marriage contract.
The two were happily wed and a few years into their marriage Mirah would become pregnant. Everyone was overjoyed as a baby girl was brought into the world. Daniel would go on to teach both mother and daughter English. With the war escalating between Isis and the rest of Afghanistan he was fearful for his wife and now teenage daughter. One day, in the market the two women were attacked. As a soldier went to rip off Sooraya's niqib (the veil that covers the lower part of the face), the teenager let out a cry and lashed out at him.
Her body and clothing turning to a forceful blast of nothing but sand and launching it at the soldier which instantly cut him to shreds and flayed him alive, leaving behind his corpse. She passed out after that, reverting to her normal form. Mirah got her daughter home and quickly described to her husband what had happened.
Daniel made a phone call to the states, he had to get his child out of there. When Sooraya came to, he explained to her he was sending her off somewhere safe and they would visit when they could. To trust the people they were sending her to. Arrangements were made that Daniel would take her on a military transport and make sure she would arrive safely.
AppearanceStuff-When she first comes into play, she will stay in her native garb. The abaya (not to be confused with a hijab) which is her clothing and her niqab, (the veil that covers her face). Not because of laws or anything but she likes to stay modest and she's currently shy. Once she settles in, she will come out of her shell and begin to slowly dress more casual. Her English isn't perfect yet, but she can hold a conversation. Idioms she will NOT get and will take stuff literally, so be careful or don't be careful, it could be funny.
Powers(Straight up from the Wiki, not mine!)
Powers: Dust has the ability to convert herself into a destructive sand blast by simultaneously transforming the substance of her body into loose silicon particles and creating an explosive release at her center, expelling her sandy mass at high velocity in all directions, then cause her particles to reassemble themselves back into her human form. With apparent telepathic control, she can then move at high velocity resembling a sand storm. The sand storm effect is strong enough to destroy steel and rip the flesh from one's bones, this is helped by the microscopic edges of the sand particles acting as tiny blades. She can also enter peoples lungs and scouring them from the inside.
Telepathic Resistance: Dust is very hard to telepathically detect or influence while in her sand-like form, even for more powerful telepaths like Professor Xavier and Jean Grey.
Magical Resistance: Dust is very hard to magically detect or influence while in sand-life form.
Weaknesses: She can be weakened by wind or water. Wind will just blow her around everywhere and make it hard for her to control herself. Water will make her sand mushy and heavy and she will be sluggish and hard to move around. Both of these, if harsh enough will make her revert back to her human self.
Heat or fire. These are huge as she is REAL sand. Heat/fire crystallizes sand to glass. This can and will paralyze her, making her also revert to her human form.
If she is knocked unconscious or exhausted from her her sand from she will also revert back to her human form.
Outside of her sand form, she's a normal human and susceptible to attacks, mental and physical.
