The weather wasn't going to hold out much longer, fall was sweeping in with cooler temps, leaves that looked like an exploding sunset and upcoming holidays. Skye knew she had a lot to be grateful for this year, after John had been taken and the battle with Trask. She was looking forward to much calmer days.
When the weather was nice, like today, Skye took a blanket, a box of toys and a basket for lunch, taking Little Lyria and finding a place in the backyard that wasn't occupied by random students. She'd spread the blanket out and let Lyria play, both mother, and daughter soaking up the sunlight while they could. Being outside gave her a chance to think. Was this the best place for them still? Could the mansion still offer that high level of protection that they'd sought for their daughter?
Skye still believed in the values set forth by the Brotherhood, mutant equality, but now, being a mom, she wasn't as eager to throw down in a fight. she had Lyria to think about, and John, they'd been pulled apart twice now, each time by the same man though that wouldn't be happening again.
"Mama..." Lyria's sweet voice pulled Skye back from her thoughts as she turned her blue eyes to her daughter, standing there in front of her while holding out a flower.
"Aww, precious, it's beautiful. Just like you!" Skye took the flower carefully, then reached out and pulled Lyria into her lap and kissing her soft, dark hair.
